Yan has a deep-rooted interest in exploring the balance between sustainability, cultural roots and logical spatial organization that results in a poetic space. Yan’s design experience mostly lies in large multi-functional public spaces including green infrastructure, urban parks and community development. She participates in the whole design and build process, holding strong interest in bringing out creative ideas from start to completion. Yan joined Terrain Studio in 2014, and her previous work includes Nanjing Youth Olympic Center, Nanjing Gulou Square, and the Xing Yuan Lake New Town in Hanzhong. She has contributed to seven projects that have received awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects and Urban Land Institute. Yan’s design education began at the University of Wisconsin, where she earned her MALA in culture landscape in 2006; she received her MLA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010.
